![]() Her mother has commissioned her to follow the Mark of Athena and correct an ancient wrong. The greeks and the romans learn to work together in the face of enemies, time restraints and a coming war between their two camps.Ĭoncurrent to the overriding quest Annabeth has a very personal journey to go on. The quest takes them across the path of those determined to stop them, they cannot be assisted by most of the gods as many of them have their own issues to do with split personalities. They have to find Nico di Angelo, who is being held by twin giants, if they are to have a chance at preventing the rise of Gaia. It is in this precarious environment that the seven start out on their new quest. The first steps are tentative but the fragile peace is quickly shattered. Percy and Annabeth are finally reunited and Jason returns to Camp Jupiter. Still an enjoyable way to spend a little time (unless you are a loyal fan of the source material), but the books are definitely better, sure that’s my opinion and you are more than welcome to your own. I think with these movies they’d be better saying they are based on the books because as adaptations go they play fast and loose with quite a few details. On the whole I think they did this book a bit more justice than the first, though there are plenty of things they miss out (Percy’s dreams of Grover), and they make loads of changes (how Percy and Tyson meet) both of which may very well be a bit annoying. The young cast seem more comfortable in their roles (though they are older than the characters are supposed to be) and there were a few casting changes, obviously some names didn’t want to come back. (Though I wouldn’t mind having one of these in my back yard) ![]() So I did see it and yes I had issues with it but at least this time I didn’t quite want to throw my shoe at the screen like I did with the first film. Percy Jackson & the Sea of Monsters – Movie Purchase: here or use Booktopia link on side of page Loads of fun and if you haven’t read any of the Percy Jackson books, then I ask why not? Do yourself a favour and give them a try. The short story at the end with Annabeth and Sadie Chase, is a fun little teaser. It is like stepping back into a place where you get to catch up with good friends. The world is very familiar to those who have read the rest of the books, it is a well woven mix of the familiar and mythical. The thing with a book like this is there really isn’t a lot to say at this point. ![]() ![]() The blending of the mythologies works well, the twisted nature of Octavian who has a similar goal to the central heroes but he is driven by power and the desire to rule. I particularly like the way Nico’s story is worked out but I won’t say any more about it. Each demigod has grown throughout this story but this one is very poignant for Nico, Reyna, Leo and Jason. It is action packed and moves all the way through at a lightening pace. The demigods need to work together if they are going to win. The others are on there way to the final destination but not without opposition as Gaia’s forces have obstacles and forces to push them back along the way. Nico, Reyna and Coach Hedge are doing everything they can to get the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half Blood, it’s proving taxing, especially on Nico who has taken on most of the heavy lifting and the toll it is taking on him could be permanent. They have come so far and battled through so very much, the end is almost in sight but so much still hangs on their decisions. There are still some very hairy challenges ahead for our seven demigods. The conclusion to the heroes of Olympus series and a book I have been waiting all year for.
